Windows Phone 7 January Update Official Details Emerge

Redmond-based software giant Microsoft is getting ready to deliver a new software update for its recently release Windows Phone 7 operating system, and some more details emerged into the wild, coming from the company itself.

On a special page it put up for the new update, Microsoft notes that Windows Phone 7 users would taste Copy and paste capabilities as soon as this software lands, in addition to benefiting from faster apps and games, and improved Marketplace search.

“One question we hear often is: What’s next for Windows Phone? We’re obsessive about listening closely to our customers and improving our phone software. So over the next few months, look for updates that add some new features you’ve asked for and also tune up your phone’s performance,” Microsoft notes.

No official release date for this update was provided, though the URL to this page seems to say it all: January. However, This might be only a generic name for it, and Microsoft could be set to start delivering it only starting with February, as previously rumored.

Copy and paste is one of the most anticipated features for Windows Phone 7, and the said update would bring it forth, Microsoft states: “Soon you’ll be able to copy text from emails, text messages, web pages, and Office Mobile documents, and paste it anywhere you can type.”

The feature is touted as being easy to use. One would only have to tap a word, slide the finger to highlight more text, and then tap the copy icon. To insert the text one would have to tap the spot, and then tap the Paste icon.

“Copy and paste is a handy way to quickly send someone’s latest Facebook update, turn-by-turn directions from Maps, or a must-see link from Internet Explorer Mobile. Once you’ve copied something, you can paste it again and again,” Microsoft states.

A series of other shortcuts in the platform were meant to offer time-saving functionalities to users, and the new feature should join them, the software company adds.

As stated above, the update would also offer faster startup time for apps and games in Windows Phone 7, not to mention that it would enable easier finding of applications, games, or music via the Windows Phone Marketplace.

Officially, the new software update should land in the next few months. Unofficially, it would arrive in January and, we can only hope that this rumor would indeed pan out.
